I don't really love the city to be honest, I'm much happier in the suburbs. But I do love a good adventure, and our trip last month was a great one!
One of my favorite parts was being caught in the mass of humanity that is NYC. I especially loved the subway, everywhere you looked was someone new, all doing their own thing. And every single one of them was different. I think I could have ridden the subway for hours. I love to people watch anywhere I go, but this was so much more than that.
As I sat there and looked around I found myself wondering about their lives. There were the young guys in their 20s talking about watching the TV show "Pan Am" because they'd love to "hit that." That made me laugh. There was the young mom with her little one in a stroller that she carried up and down the stairs and I wondered what it was like to be a mom with little ones in a place like NYC. There were two college students talking about classes and exams and clubs. There was a girl who went to the Fashion Institute studying for a test. There was an elderly man who rode with his eyes closed the entire way. I wondered if he was praying he looked so peaceful and meditative. But maybe he was just sleeping. That's the fun of people watching, there are so many options.
But what really got to me was the sudden surety I had that our Father in Heaven knows each and every one of those people. To me they were just a mass of humanity, but to Him they are individuals. He knows them, He loves them. Every. Single. One. I came close to tears as this realization struck me. I am so thankful to be a part of this mass of humanity, and to be known as one singular, valuable, treasured daughter to Him.
