Vital Statistics

(Google images)

This week's letter for Miss Jenny's class brought many very cool words to mind, have you ever noticed how many intriguing words start with the letter V?   There's plenty, trust me!  With that in mind you may wonder why I chose to toss all those vital and vigorous words out the window and go with a more mundane subject-Vital Statistics.

Here's the scoop, I'm looking for a little help from all you great bloggers out there.  I use the Blogger in Draft format for my account here on blogspot, and it has this handy statistical counter.  Whenever I check this I'm confounded.  I just can't figure out why people visit and don't comment.  Now, I know I don't have fabulous recipes, or cool crafts, or fashionista looks to share, and I'm not looking to wage a war with anyone over number of comments collected.  But I have to say it really confuses me when I see over 100 people stopped and   read a post, and I have 2 comments.  where did all you come from, and why aren't you saying anything?

I have another statistics counter as well, because I love research and numbers, and seeing where readers are, and all that good stuff.  I like to see which posts are most popular, and which ones people don't stay on for long, and even what  they are using to view my blog.  Here are my stats for yesterday:

Pageviews by Browsers
Internet Explorer
71 (36%)
Safari
49 (25%)
Firefox
46 (23%)
Chrome
26 (13%)
chromeframe
2 (1%)
SearchToolbar
1 (<1%)
pythumbnail.py
1 (<1%)
Pageviews by Operating Systems
Windows
135 (68%)
Macintosh
32 (16%)
iPad
10 (5%)
iPhone
8 (4%)
iPod
6 (3%)
Linux
4 (2%)
Other Unix
1 (<1%)

Call me a nerd, but I love all that information gathering!  What I can't figure out is why if 196 people stopped by yesterday I only have 7 comments?

I'd love to see who all 196 of you were, and where (or if) you blog, and get to know you.  I'm just stumped here, so I'm looking for help.  What makes  you want to leave a comment?  Please, please, please, leave a comment & enlighten me!

I always like to leave a comment, because the interaction of blogging is important to me.

Having said that, I have many visitors who don't comment, too. I think some people just prefer to stay in the background, and I'm sorry I can't get to know them!

If I am involved in a meme is when I feel most comfortable to leave a comment, like for alphabe thursday; then i have a reason; otherwise it feels like I am intruding and most of the time I don't get acknowledged when I leave a random comment.

It's strange to leave comments to strangers in other words. It's strange to get comments from strangers at times as well.

Most people , I'm guessing, read blogs like newspapers . I was not interested in giving feedback or leaving comments when I first started reading blogs. IN fact I didn't really care for comments either . As long as I was writing what I wanted to write , that was all that mattered to me.

I hope that my answer helps you understand a little more .

feel free to leave me your comments and the very fact that I have to ask you to leave a comment , does that persuade you ? I didn't think so .

I'll be honest. I'm nosey. That's why I look at blogs and don't usually comment.

I agree with Sue. I think comments are so important, because I have made some wonderful friends through comments.

As for statistics, well, I have a counter, but I hardly ever look at it any more because there are certain people that I look for to comment, and they don't disappoint me!

I guess that a lot of people just like to read. Me, I never seem to have a problem finding something to say. Guess it's just a matter of comfort and preference.

i would ask the same questions as you ... and sometimes i think, well i left over 80 comments on alphabe-thursday posts, so why do i only have 12??? kwim ... i love to leave comments and get comments, it makes blogging so much more fun to know that someone has taken the time to visit ... and to know that you are communicating in some way.

Sometimes I don't have time to leave a comment, or I don't know what to say about a post. If I happen to be reading posts at work (please don't tell), the internet filter will not always allow me to leave a post. I will, however, always leave a comment on Alphabe-Thursday's post...otherwise, I'm cheating and Mrs. Jenny will not give me my "A".

Here's the straight up truth--- I read your blog. I check it every day. I use an iPad most of the time, so that uses Safari. Only occasionally do I use my actual computer and then it's just plain old internet explorer. You are my friend. I miss you since you moved away. I'm "comment-challenged" but at least you allow for anonymous comments so on those very rare occasions of extreme wit or wisdom that I just have to share, I can. Mostly I just blog stalk you, then old fashioned text you ;). Sheesh, commenting takes way to long. That's the truth. But I still love you and your blog! -J

Hi! So true...huh?
For me it is like this...I have so many blogs I check in with often but don't comment at all. Those are the ones that already have 30+ commments anyway. If I must get it out then I comment, otherwise I just move on to the next. Then there are those bloggers I feel more friendly with. I want to comment just to say I was here and enjoyed reading.
Then there are the days that I read blogs with the itouch. It is impossible to comment on that thing.
And sometimes I want to check blogs and just don't have time to see them all if I comment. It is almost like we need a little stamp that we can leave on the blog to say we were here without taking the time to leave a comment and type in word verification etc...
Sorry to go on and on...but I have often wondered the same thing.
Have a great weekend!

Interesting statistics! I have never looked at mine.
If I visit a blog, I almost always leave a comment. Sometimes, I'm simply fishing for ideas, like what did someone else do for the letter__. I may come back later, to read further and comment. Some blogs feature one picture or short thought a day, and although I'll look at a number of them, I may leave a comment on only one post.

The comments left in response to your question are very interesting.
I do agree with Jo about receiving comments. The communication is what makes blogging fun!

I usually leave a comment. If I find it comment worthy! HA, I'm a comment snob! But, I figure if you leave a comment others will too.

i also think that leaving comments while reading from my phone makes it very difficult. So, it could just depend on what device they are reading from.

Read your post and agree that I would love to see more comments on my blogs--but I am thankful that I do have a few readers that always comment! They make my day!

I suppose people have been wondering about this for as long as there have been blogs. It doesn't bother me nearly as much on my personal blog, as I figure fewer people read it, but in the larger group blog that I contribute to it's the writing equivalent of an air ball when I get no comments. That said, I don't always comment either. Sometimes after I've read all the other comments I just don't feel like I have anything that original to add to the discussion, and I don't want to be a "me, too" unless I have really been affected by a post or have a strong opinion on it.

I rarely leave comments on any blog, not just yours. I don't know why. Maybe I'm a stalker. I prefer to think it's because I just enjoy reading and don't often have anything to add. Sorry. I know what you mean though. Sometimes I wonder if anyone reads mine. I didn't know I could look at the stats!

For me, it usually depends how I'm visiting. If I'm using my little notebook I am less likely to leave a comment because it takes so long on that smaller keypad.

My husband and I network our computers and sometimes, because mine isn't hard-wired in, things bog down a lot on blogger.

I always try to comment when I visit, and I never looks at those stat things. I did that when I started blogging and it made me crazy (ier).

I figured with health and family problems why add any stress to my life.

Anyway, there's my two cents as I journey through Alphbe-Thursday's letter "V" this week.

A+
