The Usual....and the Unusual

(*Disclaimer: I thought this posted last night, how sad I am to have been tardy to class and missed the party, Ms. Jenny! It won't happen again, I promise!)
This week as I contemplating how I could do justice to Ms. Matlock's class-brought to us by the letter U- I realized our week has been full of the usual things, with an unusual twist.  So, I present to you the usual, and the unusual....

The Usual                                                                                                And  The Unusual:

Yes, the normal sight of Mom driving away on the way to carpool is quite"usual" -so is the trash can lying on it's side at the end of the cul-de-sac-and no I didn't side swipe it! What was unusual? Sighting this miniature horse (or pony?) and carriage driving a carpool away from swim team.  I whipped out my phone to snap a shot before it got away, and this is the best I could do...I laughed out loud though.  That was very unusual-especially in Mesa, AZ!

The Usual                                                                                                And  The Unusual:
At the tail end of 4 boys, Cub Scouts is very much the status quo around here, what was unusual was this...Cub Scout Day Camp!!!  Woo Hooo-at least for the Cubs! It's been HOT here in Arizona this week, and after the way we've been spoiled with mild temperatures this spring and early summer, it wasn't fun to check the mercury and see 105 on the drive to day camp.  Day Camp is OUTSIDE in the dirt and rocks, they do get to swim in a pool, and there are water balloons and squirting spray bottles galore, but it was still HOT!  I went the 3rd day, from 2pm-10:30pm, and it was a     L   O   N   G  day.  But so worth it to be with my Thane on his last day ever of day camp.  Next year he'll be an 11 year old boy scout, and no day camp privileges will be found in this house.  Hard to believe after 8 years of Cubs it's almost over!

The Usual

And  The Unusual:

Swim meets and swimming pools are pretty normal around these parts, so what was unusual about this one?  For the first time EVER both swim team participants in our family made relay teams.  A true day for celebration.  If you've ever had a swimmer, you know the day they do time trials and pull out the sharpie and write their relay position on their arm is a huge event.  Now, my kids swim, but they aren't the fastest fish in the ocean...until this week that is.  This week they came home happily sporting the sharpie of honor.   (that's Sage on block 7, and Thane diving in-I was so glad I caught him at just the right time!)

There you have it
The Usual                                                                                                And  The Unusual

Ah, summer - don't you love it? Day camps and swimming and swim meets. I did have a swimmer (and water polo player) and I do know the agony of missing on your time. But oh, how sweet when they improve their times and make the relay team! I loved those days. Looking forward to them now with the grandkids! Enjoy...

How cute is that little cart and pony with the people riding in it lol. All I could think of though, how that little guy/girl could pull them, ha. Great pictures of the swim team. Great U post.

Like a trip down memory lane. This was awesome and I'm glad the soup came along so you could post it for us to see.

Great post! I had two daughters out of three that swam on middle school and high school swim teams. A lot of bleacher time for me.

This was a fun stop this week. I love the pictures of the swimmers. That water looks wonderful! And the little horse carriage is too cute. One of the gals I work with has a son in Cub Scouts, so I am very familiar with the Pinewood Derby. It's alot of fun! Kat

I think I missed this! But I'm glad I caught it this time! Hooray for the letter "U" since it adds such color and interest to our Alphabet Soup!

That pony belongs to a girl that lives right by us. We hire her for childrens parties and just to entertain the Grands when it is not so ridiculously hot outside.

She is crazy cheap and the kids just go nuts!

Oh, I miss swim meets! My son used to do it...perhaps the oldest Grand will do it next summer!

Thanks for linking!

This was fun!

A+
