Television Confessions

I'm officially coming out of the closet (although some of you have known my guilty secret for a while now).
I
L.O.V.E.
Reality TV

I know some have a true disdain for this form of entertainment, and feel it's forever ruined television-or even society in general.  I am not among your numbers.  I love watching "real" people face challenges, seeing their relationships deteriorate or thrive.  I love observing people when times are tough, and cheering them on as they rise to the occasion.  It's like people watching to the 10th degree.  I love when my kids watch with me and we talk about character and how they are treating each other.  Rooting for the Cowboys on the Amazing Race was the best! They were so kind, and such great sports throughout the  entire race.

Sadly, I can not convince my husband to come to the dark side, although a few of our children have joined me.  When he's away on business I find myself gluttonously enjoying new episodes.  Just to show you how serious my addiction is I'm going to really come out of the closet and show a glimpse of my DVR list:

Amazing Race
Survivor
Biggest Loser
Project Runway
Shear Genius
Design Star
Food Network's Challenge
American Idol
What Not to Wear
Say Yes to the Dress
Wipeout

Not on My DVR, but sometimes I also catch:
19 Kids and Counting
Ace of Cakes
Chopped
Top Chef
Minute to Win It
9 by Design

and sometimes, when there's nothing else to feed my addiction I sink even lower and watch:
America's Next Top Model
(I can't even write that full size, it's just too embarrassing)

I know, I need a 12 step program.  Now, you might be thinking how can one person watch all of those? One simple, beautiful answer...DVR  I believe DVR was invented just to allow me to indulge my addiction.  I watch while I'm on the treadmill, folding laundry (oh, how I miss you Amazing Race!), dusting, vacuuming, braiding hair, ironing, etc...  It really adds up, you'd be surprised how many challenges you can watch while you do other things, espcially when you skip the commercials (don't tell the advertisers I said that!) Thankfully TV schedules have progressed so instead of one long season, or even a fall/spring lineup we have at least 3 starting times, and usually there are only 2 or 3 running new seasons at any one time.  Listen to me, I sound like a typical addict trying to rationalize their addiction.

That's it, no more rationalization.  I like what I like, and you can join me or mock me, your choice.  I love watching people in real life and I love it on Reality TV.  Let me know if there are good ones I need to add to my DVR list!

Oh you must see "Pawn Stars" It is about a Pawn shop in Las Vegas. I also love Hoarders, but that is more documentary than reality TV. But it keeps me from giving into my shopping addiction--too much!!

You and me both. At first I hated it and then slowly you get caught up in the drama and it makes you forget our own problems. I can see why its so addictive...My addiction is blogging. Maybe you and I can call Dr. Pinsky (now that's another show I'm addicted to). In the meantime come and join us at my Tea Party. We can all discuss our addictions over a nice cup of tea and finger food LOL

You make me laugh. It's like you're confessing an addiction to porn or something! But I would be afraid to confess the America's Next Top Model.
But Design Star starts next Sunday, so more laundry-folding TV will be available. I need to find out when Wipeout is on. I've heard it's hilarious!

I like American Idol, though not as much as I used to, and now Simon's leaving.

I've also watched and enjoyed Project Runway.

My favorite is So You Think You Can Dance. Try it, okay? Feed your addiction.

;)

This is funny. If tv is your addition, then you are doing alright. There are so many really harmful addictions... drugs, smoking, alcohol...
Take care!

I'm afraid I'm just too old to "get" reality TV. Oh well, there's a lot of stuff I don't "get".

Well I like 9 out of your list. A couple I don't care for, but the rest I've never even watched. Maybe I should give them a try! I didn't see Celebrity Chef on your list. It's a good one too. And what about Miami Ink? And So You Think You Can Dance. I even like the Top Model thing. Tyra is awful, but I get so fascinated with how they make the girls look. The photography is amazing. Yeah. I don't think you're alone in your guilty pleasure.

I am not hooked on reality t.v. but I do like the Design Star, The cooking ones, and Runway. I guess I like the ones where I can learn something. It's really easy to get sucked in to those shows.

I feel ya, it's like watching a train wreck- you want to look away, avert your eyes and such, but you just can't!

I love what not to wear too- except one day I'm afraid I'm going to be ambushed by friends and family, and that they'll take away all of my jeans and white t-shirts.

Hi! Thanks for the book suggestion. The Seekers series sound like it might be perfect! I will check it out!
I do not have much time for TV, and we do not have DVR ( my daughter thinks we are the last people on earth to not have it)
but I do love the Biggest Loser.
Have a great day!
