We are down to our last week of school, and boy is it crazy! I will never understand why teachers delight in saving HUGE projects for the very end of the school year-I think it's secretly intended to torture parents.
It's the end of baseball season, soccer season, and spring football, add in all the end of the year recitals, showcases, concerts, and awards assemblies, then for good measure Teacher Appreciation Week, PTO Elections, "real" elections, and regular stuff like Scouts and youth group activities. Life is slammed full of week night activities, even for a family like mine, which has very limited extra curricular activities (just ask my kids how Ripped Off they feel!)
Despite being one of the busiest times of the year for families, teachers, especially Elementary School teachers, seem to delight in choosing this time of year to assign huge projects. Our count for the final week of school includes:
Charlotte's Web Diorama (2nd Grade)

**a mini Rant & Rave-I despise when parents do their children's projects for them, I'm happy to say my sweet girl made almost every part of this project, we did help with the fence & glue, and the spider web that's not in place in this photo.**
Conquistador Costume (4th Grade Play) + memorizing lines-sorry, no pictures are ready to be published of the actual costume at this time...it's tricky!
Full Bodied Essay on this school year, including brainstorming exercise, edited rough draft and neatly hand written final draft (4th Grade)
**Sorry, photos prohibited by author & Copyright Holder**
Report on a Country (includes written report, poster, presentation & food to share) (6th Grade)

Assorted goodies for end of year parties:
And that may not seem like a ton, but we just finished a whole other round of projects a couple of weeks ago, and did I mention it's the LAST week of school? I'm all for wringing every moment of education out of the year, but why all this due in such a short time, on top of all the other stuff?
I am so Ready for Summer:
*Disclaimer: I tried, Really, Really Tried--to make these line up, sorry!*
$4.00 swim towels to restock the cupboard
(at that price it doesn't hurt nearly so much as they slowly disappear over the summer)

These are the BEST! Check out all those flavors...

Ready and Roaring to go, I am Revved up for the Relaxation and Revelry that are Summer! Ready to roast (even in the Shade) at Swim Team Meets, Ready to Read a few good books (any suggestions?), Ready to really enjoy my family, and Ready to Resist the urge to do any more Revolting projects!

Oh, I so remember those days! It doesn't get any easier as the kids get older, either! Hang in there, summer is coming, whether you finish all that busy work, or not.
Great R post, sounds like you'll have a great summer.
Have fun.

I am ready, yes I am - my daughters school packs so much into the end of the year it drives me nuts...and BRING ON those otter pops...love them!
I remember those days counting down until my son got out of school. Sometimes I think all the school work that didn't get done during the year gets crammed into the end. I do remember though the last couple of days they just watched movies and stuff. Hang in there. Great R post.
I really recommend "Entertaining Disasters" as a robust summer read! Sounds like your kids are going to have an awesome summer!
i liked that they didn't line up.
thanks for reading picky and leaving it some love. i'm glad you liked the post. :]
I agree with Amanda, i doesnt get any easier as they get older ... the end of the school/activity year is just one of the busiest times of the year ... it sure does make you appreciate the summer break though ... and you summer looks like it is going to be such fun!!!
Looks like you are ready for summer! Hope it is a good one.
I always loved summers, when our hectic life slowed down, kids could sleep in, no deadlines, no homework...
BTW, it doesn't stop. Kids end up with projects even during "dead week" at college, when teachers aren't supposed to assign projects cuz everyone is trying to study for finals.
I well remember those last projects of the school year. I'm afraid I helped more than I should - but only because I really enjoy most of it. My kids probably would have been happy to have me butt out.
And you're all ready for summer - don't you just love those Dreyer's Fruit Bars? YUM.
I am so glad my kids now range in age from 34 to almost 41. No more school projects! They are just a distant memory.
May and June are crazy busy at my house too. I can't wait for July - that is the slowest month of my year!
You got a great deal on the towels!
Lots of fun summer shots here! Looks like you will having some fun times on your well-deserved summer break.
We have had an overcast and cold day here in Brisbane Australia-it was lovely to see your pool shots!
Best wishes,
Natasha.
I'm with you. The end of the school year is very full. But with the boys being older; it's bittersweet too.... Friends leaving. Watching my guys step out in music and sports and other activities in to who they are going to be. Even though I can't wait for summer, I feel a little sad too. Good thing we don't have any really major projects here (or at least, if we do, I know nothing about it :) Hang in there.
What a fun stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's Letter "R"!
Thank you for linking up.
You sound crazy busy and loving every second of it! I suspect your kids will have an amazing summer with you running the show!
Thanks for the happy post!
A+
Wow, I forgot how crazy the end of year can be. I'm starting to remember because our daughter is student teaching and she hasn't stopped to breath in a month :) 2 end of year concerts to conduct and she'll be done. Now she just has to find a job:) Love those frozen fruit bars, especially the lime! Kathy
