Can you tell what this one is? It's just a little thing, something I never would have thought of, but have come to LOVE! It's one of the light switches in our master bathroom. It glows in the dark. I love it.
I realized its worth was golden the first night we lived here and it was a beacon guiding me across the darkness.

This is our shower head in the master bathroom, we thought it was odd when we moved in, we really weren't so sure we'd like it. It doesn't quite have the power we're used to, but it's great for rinsing off. The jury is still out on this little quirk.
This one had me stumped when we first moved in, I wasn't sure what it was even for, but once the light bulb switched on it was like I heard a chorus of angels singing. Being from Arizona we are used to drinking gallons of water-literally. We made regular runs to our local "Water & Ice" shop for refills. This handy little line coming from the wall makes those trips a thing of the past (a good thing-I haven't seen a "Water & Ice" anywhere!). It's a water line that fills up our water dispenser without any trips to the store, or even any hassle from me-at all! And, there is a double filtration system built into the house so our water tastes great! This is another one that had us stumped when we first moved in. We found it in a kitchen drawer, and I couldn't quite figure it out. Then came the handy light bulb & I realized it's a remote for the sprinkler system. Brillant! Why have I never even heard of this before? Oh, the times I could have used this in the heat of the Arizona summer-or in the midst of a Monsoon season downpour!

Need one light switch? How about two? Double switches in nearly every room in the house-one for the light, one for the fan. So handy-especially for Sage who was constantly asking her big brothers (or me) to come and turn off or on her fan.
This is the fireplace in our basement. It's gas, and is the heat source for the basement family room and kitchen area (yes, the basement has it's own kitchen-another quirk common to newer Utah homes). I love a good fireplace, makes everything seem cozy. This one has a fabulous blower that really warms up the space in no time.
For the most part the paint in our new home is very easy to live with-neutral and goes with anything. I loved that for the most part, no need to invest a lot of time and energy making a temporary home feel livable. In two of the bedrooms the former residents decided to add some flair of their own. This is Kiefer's Room:
This is Quinn's:
Can you guess which one I've been nailing down paint colors to repaint?

Love the water idea!
And the last pic would be the one i would paint....fast.
Great post.
I wonder how long the list would be if i listed the quirks in our house? Hmmmmmm....
Most of those quirks seem more like perks, to me! Happy Alphabe-Thursday!

I've noticed the "kitchen in the basement" in some newer Utah homes also. One friend built one so his adult children can do their own cooking and cleaning up when they visit!
Makes sense to me.....
Enjoy your new home...
My favorite 'quirk' is the light switch. It's brilliant.
I love GADGETS!!!
How thoughtful of the builders/former home owners for all the Quirky Perks! Sprinkler Remote...what will they think of next...I'd have to keep it of reach of my grandson.
That striped wall...be my guess! Great Letter Q Post!
Very nice, Utah has many great innovations installed in most homes! Probably because they truly understand the needs of a family! I think with the right bedding the orange and brown room could work! I need to repaint my son's room. The green just is not working for me, and I'm the one who chose it to begin with!
Kitchens are becoming common in the basements?! Sheesh...glad that one hasn't floated up here to IF yet...I have a hard enough time keeping ONE kitchen clean! I absolutely love your kids' names. So cute...
Happy AlphabeThursday!
wow, someone had a lot of time on their hands to paint all those stripes!. . .
It would be nice to have a fireplace in the basement!
I do believe every house has its own quirks. After 18 months living here my hubby is still trying to find one shut-off valve for the basement. . .its driving him nuts!
That water idea is phenomenal! And the sprinkler remote is cool, too!!
(If I were doing one of the rooms over, it would be the second one. I quite like the other.)
But that's just me.
;)
Hey Jamie,
I love fireplaces! Nothing is more cozy than drinking hot chocolate in front of the fire. I love them in the mornings especially. I saw a house I loved in UT that had a fireplace in the kitchen and a shared one between the kitchen and master bath--what a dream!!
miss you girl!
hard to decide from my perspective,
you decide based on your need, you can try it out for a while, change after you grow tired of it or realize you need no such thing in life.
best regards.
Some of those quirks are pretty nice- lucky you. thanks for the glowing compliment- it made my day!
Your home has some very quirky "mod cons", things we would never find in our 400 year old French home.
Enjoy!
It's always fun to figure out the quirks and quarks of a new house.
Now those stripy walls....I'd be running to the paint store too!
Hmmm....I think we might have the same builder on a few of the quirks you encountered!
I love your attitude though!
You just face every challenge with a positive outlook and a wry comment.
Thanks for a great link to Alphabe-Thursday this week!
I enjoyed visiting you here!
