Opinions Wanted...

We just moved to a new state, and we are renting a home for now.  This is the family room on the main floor, it's the first thing you see when you walk in the door, and I can't quite decide what to do on this wall that faces the door.  And you must know that unless I can sell that huge behemoth of an armoire to the back right, it's not moving.  It's the only place in the house I can put it.  So keep that in mind!  Here's the view from the entryway.

First I hung this clock to the left of the windows, sorry for the glare, didn't realize what a bad picture it was until after I moved and rehung stuff.  I was too lazy to re-do the wall for a better photo, and I'm still limited to the camera on my phone for uploading on the blog.  oh the joys of moving!

I like the dark clock next to the white of the window and on that light tan wall, but I don't love that empty space to the right of the window.  So,  I hung these pictures of our kids to the sides of the window.

And I'm not totally in love with that either.  But if I don't hang these here I don't have another place to put them on the main floor, and don't really want to send them to the basement.

I am so decorating challenged it's not even funny, so please...opinions wanted and needed, even if you don't like either!  Tell me what would look good on these walls.  Honestly, this is the worst part of unpacking for me!  I love the organizing and abhor the decorating....HELP!

My vote would be to hang curtains--a color from the rug. And I would hang the rod so that the bigger section of wall was covered by more panel so that the window looks centered. I like the sign above the window.

Curtains and the clock. I really cant get past how much you have already done. Wow!
And those chairs in front of the window look so cozy.

Hi! Just catching up on some older posts here and hoping you are feeling more at home now...in your house, neighborhood and church. It is always so hard to start new.

You could always wait until April and we could send Marni out a day early!

I'm the last person to give decorating advice, I am pretty lame when it comes to that, but I do think some color in the way of drapes or curtains would certainly help....

I like the pictures, but curtains seem to have the majority. And I think that would add a nice touch of color. Maybe the pictures along the stairs instead.

What if you placed the armoire behind the couches in your doorway, the side flushed against the wall and the doors opening to your hallway? Then you could leave the photos there and place your clock on the wall where the armoire is.

The armoire. It looks too wide to put on the wall next to the window. Is that right? If it doesn't fit behind the couch, I'd try to catty-corner it and take down those 2 photos. The room looks all scrunched. The armoire overwhelms the space you have.

Curtains will soften the room dramatically.

Good luck. My mom is dealing with a humongus piece like that right now too.

I agree with Cheryl. Can you put the armoire on an angle?

I like Jen's idea. . .curtains with the clock.

we moved last year and I feel your pain. . .I am still rearranging things, kind of like a puzzle!

Before I read the other comments I was thinking big billowy curtains and it seems like I'm in good company *L*

Jamie, I miss you guys! It's not the same here, really. I will never be a decorating nor try to be so you are on your own with that--I love the neighborhood of houses! Utah is great for beautiful homes and neighborhoods. Happy you are feeling at home, t hough we do miss you. Take care and I hope to talk to you soon.

I'm not much of a decorating diva...could you angle that armoire just a tiny bit? Maybe hang some fabric over the window in a semi-valance? Make a few matching pillows for the fabric.

I like what you've done. You have cool furniture and I think you're definitely giving your talents a dis-service.

Looks like you have it all going on, girl.

Thanks for an outstanding link to Alphabe-Thursday this week.

Good luck!

A+

K, so the armoire would b too lrg to place at an angle. Ideally if you were staging the house to sell you know you have too much furniture for the space. I like the clean lines and the openness. It would be way too heavy if you Hung curtains. I say leave it and maybe even open the shutters to expand your space even more. Could you try placing the couch along the window, bringing the ottoman in front changing the motion if the room? Mayb your couch is too long. I would then place your two cream chairs together facing the couches. Add a cream throw to the couch. Put the two dark chairs together with a geometric print to match the chairs and lighten that area. If you feel like you need curtains use the same print to make pillows. I might remove the area carpet it tends to weigh the room down. Bcuz the room looks small, I would go with no rug or replace with a lighter one
