Beverages:
20 gallons of Water (drinking water-in the winter that is -double in the Arizona summer- it may just feel doubled, I will have to keep tabs on that and find out)
8 gallons of skim Milk
assorted cups of hot chocolate and hot cider (unknown quantity)
Bread:
5 loaves of homemade "snack" bread-includes cinnamon raisin, apple, herb, etc... eaten with dinners or as afterschool snacks
48 muffins
25 flour tortillas
15 corn tortillas
12 hamburger buns
Fruit (remember this is a winter list, I should really do this again in the summer):
20 lbs of apples
15 lbs of oranges
10 lbs of bananas
7 lbs of grapefruit
1 container of raisins
Veggies:
5 heads of lettuce
8 tomatoes
15 lbs of carrots
5 lbs of celery
15 lbs of potatoes
4 lbs of frozend mixed veggies
Untold peas, carrots, radishes and pieces of broccoli and cauliflower stolen from the garden-I don't mind at all, if you're going to snack can't do much better than straight from the plant!
Meat:
6 lb chicken
4 lb ground beef
1 pork or beef roast
0 fish (ewwwww!)
Canned foods (some of these are store bought, some home canned-whatever I have):
4 cans black beans
4 cans chili beans
4 cans pork n beans
8-10 cans of soup
6 cans of diced tomatoes
3 cans of tuna (definitely doesn't count as fish)
4 cans of green beans
5 cans of corn
8-10 large cans/jars of canned fruit (peaches, pears, fruit cocktail, etc...)
2 Jars of Spaghetti Sauce
Dairy/Misc. other stuffs I thought of:
16 oz sour cream
1 med. size jar of salsa
2-3 lb butter
1 lb cheese
3-4 dozen eggs, depending on the meals we make
1.5 #10 cans of whole oats (you know for oatmeal kind of oats)
1 #10 can of wheat
1 container of Cream of Wheat
2 lb spaghetti noodles
1 lb other pasta (varies)
5 lb of sugar
2 lb brown rice
10 lbs of flour (approximately, I honestly didn't keep track of this one)
1 lb. chocolate chips
.5 gallon ice cream
3 boxes of cold cereal
2 bags of pretzels
2 boxes of crackers
Of course this isn't everything, I didn't measure salad dressing, or snatches of marshmallows that disapeared. But still, HOLY COW! That's a whole lot of food. I think it will be fun and somewhat astonishing to make note of this from time to time, and check out how it changes, and increases or decreases. So, what's your weekly consumption of groceries look like?
**Amendment: I can't believe I left off PB & J-daily staples around here!
1 large (grocery store large, not Costo supreme size) Jar Peanut Butter
2 Jars of Jam (thank heaven for abundant Peach and Apricot trees! )

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT!
Nowhere close over here.
I'm still in shock.
I'll check back when I've regained my senses
Oh, and that's from me, not him!
Oh my heavens! That's an amazing amount of food! I don't think we'll be anywhere near that for a long time, if ever, since my kids don't like food that much. I have no idea where they got that since I love food!
our family most definitely eat a lot and are hardy eaters. Your list is quite a big one! daunting when you think how much of your budget goes to groceries. We would spend $1200-$1500 a month of groceries. I had to learn to cut down, water down and use meat sparingly, meat is a staple at our home.
when your kids go to college you will notice a huge drop in your food bill, and college tuition goes up, but truly I think we still end up saving paying for college and not his food. He is on scholarship so he can eat all he wants with the football team in the cafeteria.
I bet if most people wrote down what their families really goes through in a week, or even a month they'd be shocked. It just gradually grows.
Mother Goose-I can't imagine how much your oldest must have eaten at home, he is huge! And during football season I bet you couldn't fill him up! That scholarship really saves you, doesn't it :)
